Appointments
Carleton University
Shelley Gullikson (MLIS) began her position as Web, Communications and Interface Design Librarian in January 2013. Most recently, Shelley had been Head of Web Publishing at the Privy Council Office and was Head of Reference Services at the Translation Bureau. She is returning to academic libraries, having worked as Information Literacy Coordinator at Mount Allison University and as a reference librarian at the Ontario College of Art and Design and the University of Alberta.
Nippissing University and Canadore College
Nancy E. Black (MLS) joined Nipissing University and Canadore College Libraries as Executive Director in September 2012. While employed at the University of Northern British Columbia, she was the Manager of Access and Information Services from 2007-2012 with a year appointment as the Acting University Librarian from 2008 to 2009. She is currently completing a doctorate through the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies with the University of British Columbia.
Paula Cardozo (BA, MEd, MLIS) has been appointed to the permanent position of Reference and Information Services Librarian where she previously served as the Student Success Librarian/OCULA New Librarian Resident.
Heather Saunders (MA, MLIS) became the Manager of Reference and Information Services in August 2012. She previously worked as the Art Librarian at Purchase College, State University of New York.
University of Guelph
M.J. D’Elia (MLIS) has been appointed as the Head (Acting) of the Learning and Curriculum Support Team. Prior to this role, M.J. worked as an Information Literacy Librarian, primarily supporting business programs in the College of Management. He will continue to teach MCS*4100: Entrepreneurship for the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies.
Pamela Jacobs (MSc, MLIS) rejoined the University of Guelph Library in September 2012 as Information Resources Librarian. She returns to Guelph after two years as Canadian Manager with YBP Library Services and seven years at the Brock University Library as Associate University Librarian for Collections and as Collection Assessment/Liaison Librarian. Her work focuses on evidence based decision making in collection development, management and analysis.
Melissa McAfee (MLS, BA) was appointed Special Collections Librarian on June 1, 2012. Over the past 20 years she has focused on collection development and management, digitization, curating exhibitions, grant writing, and preservation of rare books and archival collections. Most recently, she served as a grant writing and project consultant for libraries and archives in the Washington, DC area. In addition, she has held positions at a number of other institutions including the Newberry Library in Chicago, the New York State Historical Association and the American University in Cairo.
Karen Nicholson became the Manager, Information Literacy in September 2012. Prior to working at Guelph, Karen was the Information Literacy and Staff Development Librarian at McMaster University from 2007 to 2012, and the Information Literacy Coordinator at McGill University from 2002 to 2007. Karen completed a secondment as Project Manager for the Council of Ontario Universities’ Quality Assurance Framework in 2010.
Ryerson University
May Yan has been appointed to the position of E-Resources Access and Discovery Librarian May has been working at Ryerson Library for over a year, providing support in electronic resource management. Previously, May worked in User Support and Instruction at Scholars Portal, and at the Engineering and Computer Science Library at the University of Toronto. Prior to becoming a librarian, May worked extensively in database architecture, programming and web design both as in independent contractor and at Goldman Sachs in New York.
