Call for Student Writers

InsideOCULA is currently seeking submissions for students enrolled in a library science program (degree or diploma) interested in attending the OLA Super Conference 2025, and writing about their experience. The chosen student will receive free registration to attend one day of the conference.

As an official publication of the Ontario College and University Library Association, InsideOCULA is proud to provide a forum for the exchange of perspectives and innovation across Ontario university and college libraries. We have recently worked with OCULA Council to create a Statement & actions against anti-Black racism, and we welcome submissions that share the varied and diverse experiences of library staff across the province. InsideOCULA accepts submissions of all formats (E.g., articles, videos, interviews etc.). Please see guidelines on submission requirements.

For Winter 2025 InsideOCULA would like to highlight the experiences of students looking to enter the library world. As such, we are looking for a student who has not attended the OLA Super Conference before, and is interested in writing about their experience as a first time attendee. The student will choose a day of the conference to attend, and write a piece that includes:

  • A quick overview of the sessions they attended and any notable conversations in which they participated
  • The biggest takeaways from the conference, or lessons learned about the work of libraries in Canada
  • What they think are the biggest benefits for students to attend the OLA Super Conference

Interested students should submit a statement of interest that covers:

  • The program in which they are currently enrolled
  • What they hope to get out of attending the conference
  • Their career goals
  • Previous writing experience

Statements should be 500-800 words and submitted to insideocula@gmail.com by December 31, 2024.

We look forward to hearing from you,

The InsideOCULA Editorial Team
