Introducing our new OCULA council members for 2014

 Sophia Apostol
President, 2014

Sophia works as the Director of Sales in Canada for YBP Library Services, a book and ebook vendor to academic libraries. Sophia has previously worked for Seneca College, Coutts Ingram, Ontario Colleges Library Service, and the University of Guelph. She has also taught in the MLIS program at the University of Western Ontario. Sophia lives in Toronto with her two dogs and new husband (she just got married on March 29, 2014).

 

Shanna Pearson
Vice-President, 2014/President-Elect, 2015

Shanna is the User Services Librarian at Seneca College, co-ordinating the activities of the Reference Services team. She also provides information literacy instruction to students in degree and non-degree programs. Her experiences include user experience studies, staff training, instruction, and the creation and implementation of online learning modules and virtual reference services. As the OCULA Vice-President/President Elect, Shanna brings an enthusiasm to council and a desire to provide inspiring professional development opportunities to OCULA members.

 

 Denise Smith
Councillor-at-Large, 2014—2016

Denise is a librarian at Brock University. She is currently the Liaison Librarian for History, Canadian Studies, Liberal Arts, and Medieval and Renaissance Studies. In addition to her liaison responsibilities, Denise is also the Special Projects Librarian. In this position, Denise has contributed to the development of e-learning initiatives at the library, led the implementation of a virtual reference service, and developed and led assessment strategies for library projects. Denise earned a B.A. (Combined Honours) from the University of King’s College in Early Modern Studies and International Development Studies in 2008 and an MLIS from Western University in 2013.

 

 Jeannie An
Super Conference Co-Planner, 2015

Jeannie An is currently the Ron Joyce Centre (RJC) Research Services Librarian, DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University Library. Jeannie is also the co-chair of the Library Staff Learning and Development Committee, focusing on staff learning opportunities at all levels across the library. Outside of the library, Jeannie enjoys networking with colleagues and spends her time volunteering at the Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA), University of Toronto as well as the College of Electors, University of Toronto.
